All Wayne Community Schools in Wayne, Nebraska were placed on precautionary lockdown earlier today after staff received information that prompted concern for possible safety issues on or near the school campus. The lockdown began in the late morning hours when the district sent a message to parents and caregivers informing them that schools had gone into lockdown and asking families not to come to campus at that time. Officials made it clear that students and staff were safe and secured inside classrooms.
Law enforcement — including the Wayne Police Department, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and the Nebraska State Police — responded quickly to assess the situation and check the school grounds and surrounding areas. After a thorough investigation, authorities determined that there was no confirmed threat to student or staff safety.
